Assignment Three…

Thank golly gosh Assignment Three is almost over! Well a little sadness can be found in the fact that I have come a 360 in this subject. I have gone from being stressed and brain fried to thoroughly enjoying it and really taking personal time to do extra things. Assignment Three is due tomorrow and I am excited and nervous- I want to do well as I always do, but I always fear that I am not on the right track. I don’t know how you can fix this, it is a recurring feeling.

I definitely enjoyed PRAC with my favourite mentor thus far. I love how different all of your mentors can be, they all have different personalities, teaching styles and behaviour management beliefs. I learn so much through prac, more than I have learnt in a long time!

I am so grateful that a wonderful small country town Catholic School has taken me under their wings. All staff are so helpful to me and really have made my time at the school memorable.

Thanks to all the teachers out there who take on Prac students with warm hearts and an open mind ๐Ÿ™‚

Positive Classrooms…

I have come across this resource called; 7 Ways to Building Positive Classrooms. My style of behaviour management and classroom management include a lot of positivity. I do this because I believe too often in the past I have been caught up with wasting time on the negatives of behaviour and the classroom. Life is not about learning how to nit pick and analyse every little detail. You need to enjoy the little things and often sit back and take a breath of positivity.

The 7 focuses of this resource are;

1. Make learning relevant

2. Create a classroom code of conduct

3. Teach positive actions

4. Instill intrinsic motivation

5. Reinforce positive behaviour

6. Engage positive role models

7. ALWAYS be positive.

This is only a brief skeleton/outline of the resource. For more reading please follow the link. It is an enjoyable read ๐Ÿ™‚

Games, games, games. It seems to be the only thing to motivate my students right now! So I have compiled a list of websites that have educational games on them. These are approved websites for students to use and play the games of their choice. I also love outdoor games, which you can find plenty of on the internet, but this post is strictly about web games :).

So here it goes;

Learning Games for Kids : ย there are art, maths, typing, social skills, English and various other types of games on here.

Knowledge Adventureย : on this site there are plenty of both enjoyable and educational games for students to enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Fun Brain : on this site there are plenty of both educational and fun games for students to enjoy. The games also cater to students of all age levels ๐Ÿ™‚

Kidz Page : this is another great website resource full of enjoyable games for the kids.

If your students can’t find a game to play on any of these sites, there is something wrong with them! hahahah!

20 ideas in 20 minutes…

So I have come across this .pdf booklet that has 20 different ways of incorporating ICT into lessons. I have actually downloaded, saved and printed my own copy. It has 20 ideas that whilst initially simple, the ideas that I came up with were inspired by these and enabled me to create some great lessons and assessment ideas! You seriously have to LOVE the internet! What would we do without it!!!

Here is the link, I strongly recommend having a look, who knows what you might be inspired to do or create if you do ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously, I love this site! I am remember back in my days at school, in year 5 we were being taught about this crazy new radical idea called “Google“. We would type in whatever we want and it was there. I love this tool! I use it all the time. I always make a list during the day of questions the class asks me that may be irrelevant to the topic we are learning about at the time or I don’t actually have a solid answer for (I don’t know everything!). Then at the end of the day the students have 10 minutes to research the questions,ย either on googleย orย in dictionaries.

I find it makes them use research skills and also shows them that it is okay not to knowย everything.

ICT in Primary Classrooms Article…

I have found this article written by Ivan Webb in 2007 for the University of Tasmania. 2007 was 7 years ago and it is interesting to find that some statements and predictions are in fact correct or incorrect. The article is 259 pages long, so I will not claim to have read it all or to ever endeavour to. I will comment on the sections I read though, noting that some great suggestions on incorporating ICT have been made.

Webb calls for teachers to be flexible with their pedagogies so that the full potential of ICT in the classroom can be realised. This is so relevant to me and my study with EDC3100. I find that I need to continuously take on ideas and read new material so that I can evolve my pedagogy and keep up with the demand of the 2014 students.

Webb also notes that most of the influential factors of involving ICT in the classroom are actually outside he classroom and often in homes. It is a teamwork venture between school life and home life to be able to successfully improve the ICT in schools.

The Digital Classroom

I have recently conducted a Google search for using ICT in the Classroom. I regularly do searches so that I can continuously grow and expand my knowledge. I know ICT is going to be in our lives always and I want to ensure that my students creativity and skills using ICT are up with the best of them. I don’t mind if my students go home and like to play outdoors, or do some cooking or play with the neighbourhood children, in fact I love this. This is why I make sure that they are all instilled with the necessary skills to be tech-savvy and competitive in the ICT world and job market.

I have come across this link in my most recent search; The Digital Classroom, it is actually a series of support documents to encourage and inspire teachers on the different ways to include ICT in the classroom. It is produced by the QLD Government and I believe is a GREAT free resource.

The documents (placemats as they call them) have titles such as; Comprehending, Brainstorming, Interviewing and Reflecting. Words you may see on report cards or rubrics. Under each title are different ICT products and programs that can be used in the classroom to strengthen the learning in these areas.

I highly recommend you all go and have a look as my short piece of writing does not do the usefulness of this resource justice.
